January auction highlights & our upcoming charity auction

Posted: Thursday 08 February 2018

We had a great start to the year with our first auction of 2018 taking place at the end of January. We saw two Macallan 25 year old Anniversary Malts sold after some very competitive bidding, and a several bottles of Japanese whisky being fiercely fought over.

Our charity lot, a 1991 25yo Cambus single grain whisky, was auctioned in aid of the Simpson Special Care Neonatal Unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This single cask bottling was chosen by representatives of top local bars and retailers, of which our auctioneer at Royal Mile Whisky Auctions was part, and bottled specifically for the City of Edinburgh by Berry Bros & Rudd. The winning bidder didn’t just get their hands on a bottle of this single cask whisky, which is signed by Simon Berry and Elizabeth Rudd, they also secured a six dram private tasting for ten friends hosted by Berry Bros & Rudd’s assistant spirits buyer Jonny McMillan!

On the theme of charity, we are delighted to announce we are hosting a charity auction in aid of the ‘My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’. Last year, Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. As a result of this, Doddie set up the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation with the aim of raising as much money as possible in order to help find a cure for this disease.

The auction will run from February 21st to March 7th, and sees the whisky community coming together to support this fantastic cause, with donations being received right across the industry. As well as unique, rare bottle of whisky on offer in the auction, there are also bespoke whisky tastings and luxury golf days available to bid on. With 100% of the proceeds from the auction going to Doddie’s Foundation, we’re aiming to raise thousands of pounds for this fantastic cause.

You can sign up to be eligible to bid here, or if you wish to donate a bottle, please contact our auctioneer, Chris, at for further information.
